Steve’s journey to Smith Mountain Lake is among the most unusual you’ll hear. In early 1990, as a First Lieutenant Marine Corps Electronic Counter-Measures Officer, Steve flew down the Blackwater River at 500 feet, learning low-altitude tactics in a Cherry Point, N.C., based EA-6B. Over the next 11 years, he would fly down the lake as a low-altitude and weapons instructor, sometimes four times a day. He vowed early on that he would vacation here someday.

In late 2008, Steve and his wife vacationed at Smith Mountain Lake for the first time and on that visit heard a familiar sound. They ran to the waterfront to witness two Marine Corps EA-6Bs returning the “Sound of Freedom.” At that point, Steve knew SML would be his forever home. As a recent military retiree, he was then working as a business development professional within the Defense space and learning valuable principles and ethics that will serve you well as his client.

Steve recently changed careers, and after moving/buying/selling homes coast to coast at least seven times – most recently to Moneta – has a breadth of experience for anyone interested in VA mortgages or many military relocation programs.  The search for the perfect forever home is filled with options and considerations, (especially when adding waterfront, dock, location and beach vs riprap options), and Steve looks forward to serving you no matter your background.

He is a 1986 graduate of the US Naval Academy (BS Math) and 1998 graduate of the Naval Postgraduate School (MS Electrical Engineering). He is a 1992 graduate of the Marine Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) course. He has seven grandchildren who love to vacation with Pop Pop at Smith Mountain Lake.  Give him a call, anytime.
